Welcome to the Era of “Undetectable Injectables”

“While there’s no denying the results look great, I’m not alone in my concern over how these undetectable procedures may affect our perception of aging on a larger scale, with celebrities looking the same at 40 as they did a decade prior—not to mention the expectation that they maintain that look well into their 50s and 60s. Manhattan-based plastic surgeon Melissa Doft, M.D., agrees it’s distorting our perception. “We’re living with expectations that are super high,” she says. “It’s unfair.” Not to mention, this surgical “trend” is taking hold simultaneously with the rise of AI and extremely stealth visual editing technology. “On the editing side of a film, you can get rid of wrinkles, you can get rid of pigmentation—and that’s someone in motion,” adds Doft. “Our perception of what reality is is so altered. I think it’s affecting everyone psychologically.””
